INTRODUCING OUR VISIONARY CO-FOUNDERS

A successful serial entrepreneur with over 20 years in high tech industries, Wally has worked with notable companies like Nortel, PMC-Sierra, and AMCC, where he focused largely on semiconductor design for optical networking. Wally grew his first venture, Avalon Microelectronics, to over 30 staff and nearly $4M in annual revenue. In 2010, he sold the company to Altera, a large multinational enterprise based in Silicon Valley, which was acquired by Intel in 2015. Outside of the office, Wally is a proud hockey dad (and goalie himself), and is not afraid of a plate of nachos.

Avalon co-founder Russ Baker serves as Vice President of Business Development and helped seed the idea that became Avalon Holographics. Russ has over twenty years of development, sales, and marketing experience in deeply technical fields including optical telecom, semiconductor, data networking, embedded software, and security. After earning a Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Calgary, Russ spent most of his career in tech startups. Avalon is his fifth startup, with the previous four all leading to successful acquisitions. When he’s not defining product requirements, chasing deals or establishing new partnerships for Avalon, Russ can be found traveling the globe, golfing, gaming, or reading (and also remains steadfast when confronted by nachos).

Since 2015, Wally and Russ have led the Avalon Holographics team as it’s grown to over 50 staff with offices in St. John’s, Ottawa, and Edmonton. To learn more about the work that we do, check out our recent article: “What is a Holographic Display?”.
